TURKISH ORIENTAL

Turkish Oriental bellydance is fast, furious and full of spunk. We’ll begin with a breakdown of basic zill patterns then move into a powerhouse warm up, saucy isolations, shimmies, hair tosses, turns, footwork and combinations. Bring your zills and be ready for a workout we’ll be movin’ fast!!!



ZILL DRILLS!!!

Get frustrated when dancing and zilling at the same time? Only have 4 patterns under your belt? In this fun and challenging workshop you will learn multiple zill patterns and step combinations. We will begin with finger cymbal pattern mastery and transition into layering isolation and step combinations with your zills.



EXPLORATIONS IN IMPROVISATION

Improvisation is at the heart of bellydance. This exploratory class will give you the tools to perform flawless improvisation on stage or in restaurant/clubs. Through staging technique, creative exercises and movement recall practices you'll be improvising in no time.



STANDING TAXIME

Standing taxime is one of the most challenging sections of the bellydance performance with an emphasis on deliberate and expressive improvisation to a single instrument. In this innovative class we begin with an intricate review of slow muscular isolations and steps then move into exercises in improvisation and self-awareness finishing off with ideas for interpreting individual instruments found in improvisational taxime.



EXPRESSIVE VEIL

Expand yourself on stage and express the music with dynamic and dramatic veil transitions. Learn to use accents in the music to mystify your mechanics and make seamless sequences with your veil. Please bring chiffon and silk 3 yard rectangular veils.



DRUM SOLO TECHNIQUE AND CHOREOGRAPHY

Learn techniques for developing sharp, clean isolations while exploring innovative and unique accents in this award winning drum solo choreography. Ruby will break down the movements in detail and then pull them back together in this fun and energetic drum solo!



SPINS AND TURNS

Captivate your audience with fast spins and dramatic turns. In this workshop Ruby will break down several spinning techniques, variations and turning level changes, then work together combinations to sequence spins and steps. Please bring socks or shoes and veils!



FLOOR WORK

This detailed class begins with a thorough pilates based warm-up, then leads into innovative descents and ascensions, floor technique muscular breakdown, combinations and tips on proper alignment and musical interpretation. Ruby’s pilates based approach guides you into a safe exploration of bellydance floorwork. Please bring kneepads and a pilates mat.



TURKISH ROMAN (GYPSY)

Get ready to dance...Turkish Style! This two-hour overview will introduce traditional Turkish Roma (Gypsy) steps, gestures and isolations along with exercises to bring freedom of expression to your dance. Steps and gestures will be broken down and then layered together while focusing on the Turkish Roma 9/8 rhythm.
